Privacy policy

Draft placeholder. This policy needs review by a lawyer before Kumara takes paying customers or launches in Australia.

Kumara AI Limited (NZ company number 9466461, NZBN 9429054036406) runs Kumara, an AI receptionist for tradies. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to meet the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Australian Privacy Act 1988, including the Australian Privacy Principles.

Who this covers

  • Tradies who join our waitlist or use Kumara.
  • People who phone a tradie and are answered by Kumara (callers).
  • People who visit this website.

What we collect

  • Waitlist: your name, business name, trade, country, email and mobile number.
  • Tradie accounts: business details, service area, working hours, phone numbers, calendar access and billing details.
  • Callers: the caller’s phone number, name, address, job details, a call recording and a transcript.
  • Website: we don’t use cookies or tracking scripts. Our host keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.

Why we collect it

  • To contact you about joining Kumara.
  • To answer calls for a tradie, book jobs, and send job summaries and booking confirmations.
  • To bill for the service, fix problems and improve how Kumara handles calls.
  • To stop spam and abuse.

Callers are told at the start of each call that they are speaking with an AI assistant and that the call may be recorded.

Where it is stored and for how long

Call recordings, transcripts and job details are hosted in the Australia and New Zealand region. Call recordings are deleted after 90 days. TODO(legal): confirm retention periods for transcripts, call logs and waitlist data.

Waitlist sign-ups are stored with our website host, Cloudflare. TODO(legal): confirm the storage location of waitlist data and list it here.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the service providers we need to run Kumara, such as our phone, voice AI, text messaging, calendar and hosting providers. We don’t sell personal information. TODO(legal): list each provider and where it processes data, to meet IPP 12 (NZ) and APP 8 (AU) on cross-border disclosure.

Automated decisions

Kumara uses AI to understand calls, decide whether a job is urgent and offer booking times. A tradie can always review and change a booking. TODO(legal): check this meets the Australian automated decision-making disclosure rules that apply from 10 December 2026.
